Baek Hee-na (born December 1, 1971 ) (also: Baek Heena , Baek Hee Na ) is a South Korean illustrator . In 2020 she received the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize for her ability to illustrate children's gestures and facial expressions.

Life

Baek studied education at the California Institute of the Arts and Ewha Womans University . In addition, she completed an animation degree in the United States of America. Today she mainly illustrates children's books.

Awards

In 2005, Baek Hee-na was recognized as the best illustrator in the field of fiction for Wolkenbrot at the International Children's Book Fair in Bologna .

At the end of March 2020, she was awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize (ALMA), which is endowed with prize money of five million Swedish kronor (around 455,000 euros). Due to the corona crisis, it is unclear when the award ceremony will take place - usually at the end of May.
