Bagunte is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northwest Portugal .

history

The Cividade de Bagunte , a fortified settlement of the Castro culture , was here in the 4th century BC. BC, then Romans settled here. The excavation site has been under monument protection as the Monumento Nacional since 1910 .

Bagunte was subordinate to Barcelos since the Middle Ages , until it was incorporated into the Vila do Conde district in 1836 as part of the numerous administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1820 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg (1832-1834). In 1898 the municipality of Santagões was also dissolved and incorporated into the municipality of Bagunte.

With the municipal reform in 2013 , the independent municipality of Bagunte was dissolved and merged with three others to form the new municipality of Bagunte, Ferreiró, Outeiro Maior e Parada .

Bagunte was the seat of an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the district of Porto . It had an area of ​​9.2 km² and 1,488 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

In the course of the regional reform on September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Bagunte, Ferreiró , Outeiro Maior and Parada were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Bagunte, Ferreiró, Outeiro Maior e Parada . Bagunte is the seat of this newly formed community.
