The Waren / Müritz depot ( Bw Waren / Müritz for short ) was opened in 1879 together with the commissioning of the branch line from Waren to Malchin and served the maintenance, repair and provision of steam and later diesel locomotives that were located in Waren or provided train services there.

For reasons of rationalization, the depot lost its independence in 1969 and was subordinated to the depot Neustrelitz as a traction unit with maintenance (TEU for short) and was later closed after the takeover by Deutsche Bahn AG.

history

Initially, the depot only had a double-track locomotive shed with upstream treatment facilities. With the opening of the Lloyd railway from Neustrelitz to Warnemünde and the southern railway from Parchim to Neubrandenburg in 1885, the importance of the Bw increased significantly, so that an expansion was necessary. Therefore, in 1892, a half-timbered ring locomotive shed with 11 tracks as well as an office and social building was built. In the period between 1920 and 1932, the roundhouse was gradually replaced by a new building with 14 tracks. At the same time, the treatment facilities were modernized.

In the post-war years, the Reichsbahndirektion Greifswald converted smaller depots into operational sites. This process also affected the Waren / Müritz depot and so the systems came to the Neustrelitz depot on October 1, 1969. Due to the associated loss of importance, parts of the roundhouse were demolished by the mid-1970s and the systems were completely converted to diesel traction. In the course of the wave of rationalization after the takeover by Deutsche Bahn AG, the office in Waren / Müritz was finally closed.

Locomotive inventory

According to the locomotive directory of the Reichsbahndirektion Schwerin, three locomotives of the class 36 , two locomotives of the class 89 and three locomotives of the class 91 19 were in goods in 1925 . The number of locomotives then changed significantly by 1932. This year, nine locomotives of the class 24 , three locomotives of the class 55 16-22 and seven locomotives of the class 91 19 were at home in the depot .

On April 10, 1946, the following locomotives were in Waren:

After the war, the train performance decreased significantly due to line closures. This loss of importance also had an impact on the number and variety of stationed steam locomotives. On April 1, 1953 only ten locomotives of the 57 series 10-35 , eight locomotives of the 64 series and one each of the 70 61 and 70 63 series were available. By 1957, the number of locomotives was reduced to just two class 57 10-35 locomotives . In the 1960s, diesel locomotives came to Waren as part of the change in traction.
