The Berlin Karower Kreuz train station is a project for a tower train station in Berlin . It is said to be at the intersection of the Stettiner Bahn with the Berlin outer ring in the Pankow district on the border of the Blankenburg and Karow districts.

history

The idea for a tower station at this point dates back to the 1990s, and the planning approval procedure was opened in September 2003 . Due to other plans and the poor financial situation, the Berlin Senate suspended the planning approval process in 2011. In January 2016, the planned construction costs were 10.9 million euros. After the resumption, the final planning approval decision was initially expected for 2017. Construction is planned for the period of the performance and financing agreement (LuFV) between the federal government and Deutsche Bahn, starting in 2020, and can begin depending on the progress of construction on the long-distance railway tracks of the Szczecin Railway. After the building permit has been granted, a construction period of three years is assumed. In 2018, the start of construction in 2026 was discussed. The Berlin district of Pankow, in which the Karower Kreuz is located, rejects the project entirely and instead supports the construction of a regional train station in Berlin-Buch .

Construction planning

Ideas for the construction of the station envisage the construction of a central platform and two outer platforms on the Szczecin Railway, which forms the upper level of the tower station . The mainline track in the direction of Bernau and the S-Bahn track in the direction of Pankow are to be led past the outer platforms . This means that there is a direct transfer option between the S-Bahn and the regional train at the central platform. Two outer platforms could be built on the lower level to serve the tracks of the Berlin outer ring. The extension of the S-Bahn tracks from the direction of Wartenberg is also being discussed.

Operational planning

Line S2 of the Berlin S-Bahn is to stop at the upper platforms . Which regional train lines will stop there is just as open as the integration of the current S8 line or an extension of the S75 from Wartenberg.
