The Biberbrugg station is a railway junction of the Swiss Südostbahn (SOB) and is located on territory of the municipality Feusisberg in the canton of Schwyz . Along with Wattwil, it is considered to be one of the operating hubs of the SOB because the Romanshorn – Arth-Goldau and Wädenswil – Einsiedeln lines separate here.

history

The station was opened in 1877 by the then Wädenswil-Einsiedeln-Bahn (WE) when it opened its railway line between Wädenswil on the line from Zurich to Ziegelbrücke and the pilgrimage site of Einsiedeln. While the eponymous settlement Biberbrugg is part of Bennau and is therefore in the Einsiedeln district, the train station is in the Feusisberg district in the Höfe district. In 1891, the station became a hub when the WE successor company SOB put its railway line from Pfäffikon SZ to Arth-Goldau into operation.

The traffic junction was renovated by 2011, level crossings should be a thing of the past, and the platform edges will also be raised to 55 cm. After a number of debates in the Schwyz cantonal council, the latter decided not to cover the cost gap of around three million francs, whereupon the SOB redimensioned the project and waived some planned construction work.

traffic

The station is the busiest transfer hub on the entire SOB network and is also served by two lines of the Zurich S-Bahn . In addition, Auto AG Schwyz and PostBus also use the station to enable their bus networks to be linked to the SOB.

Long-distance transport

Train

In addition, until the small timetable change in June 2014, a numberless S-Bahn - called Gipfeli-Express - stopped working days in the load direction, operated with SBB wagons and a Re 446 of the SOB , from Einsiedeln via Wädenswil to Zurich Altstetten . Due to a new timetable concept on the left bank of the Seebahn , this connection could no longer be continued.

While the station is of great importance in passenger traffic, that of goods traffic is only of local importance, since the Südostbahn is not one of the main transversal routes in Swiss goods traffic.
