history
The railway line Saint-Denis - Creil via Survilliers-Fosses was opened on May 10, 1859 as a section of the Paris-Lille line. By 1907, the two-track expansion to Orry-la-Ville took place . Part of the route was the Chantilly Viaduct (also called the Canardière Viaduct), with three tracks, a length of 443 meters and 36 arches that were up to 22 meters high.
Chantilly station was a standard model for second-rate stations of the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord and was built by the Lejeune company. The roofing of the platforms has been preserved from the original building, as has the imitation vaults in the reception hall. An expansion project was planned in 1922, but never carried out.
A junction from Chantilly towards Senlis was built in 1862, later extended to Crépy-en-Valois , but closed in 1950 and finally closed in 1960.
For the needs of horse breeding, there was a loading station for horses in today's Rue de l'embarcadère . A separate train station for the city's horse racing track was built in 1897. It had 12 tracks and 11 platforms, a turntable and a water tower. Each platform could serve a train with 21 wagons. This made it possible to handle 12,000 passengers at the same time. The journey to Paris took 35 minutes at the time. The operation of this station was interrupted in the Second World War, in 1954 it was finally closed. In its place is now the Quartier de Verdun district .
