The Fukuroi Station ( Jap. 袋井駅 , Fukuroi-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshu , operated by the railway company JR Central . It is located in Shizuoka Prefecture in the Fukuroi City area .

description

Fukuroi is a through station and former connecting station on the Tōkaidō main line operated by JR Central , one of the most important railway lines in Japan. Regional trains run two to five times an hour between Atami and Toyohashi , depending on the route section and time of day . Additional home liners (ホ ー ム ラ イ ナ ー), express trains with reserved seats , run between Numazu and Hamamatsu during peak traffic periods .

The station is in the Takao district, south of the city center. The facility is oriented from east to west and has six tracks, four of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on a covered central platform and on two side platforms . As a rule, however, only the tracks on the central platform are used. The station building has the shape of a riding station that spans the entire complex. A covered footbridge attached to it enables a connection between the two station forecourts without having to pass the platform barriers. The bus terminal on the northern forecourt is the terminus of a dozen bus routes offered by Akiha Bus , Entetsu Bus and the Fukuroi city bus. The bus stop on the southern forecourt serves three more lines.

In 2016 the station counted an average of 5231 passengers a day.

history

The state railway administration opened the station on April 16, 1889, together with the Shizuoka - Hamamatsu section of the Tōkaidō main line . From December 28, 1902, it was the southern starting point of the Akiba line . The final stop of this tram was called Shin-Fukuroi ( 新 袋 井 ), was on the north side of the forecourt and had its own small station building. Since there was no platform, passengers used wooden stools instead to get into the cars. On January 12, 1914, the first section of the later Sun'en line went into operation. Its final stop was also called Shin-Fukuroi , but it was on the south side of the station and was accessible via a bridge. Both routes were owned by the Shizuoka Tetsudō from 1923 and 1943 respectively .

In 1959 the Japanese State Railways replaced the station building with a new building. On September 20, 1962, the Shizuoka Tetsudō put the Akiba line out of operation, and on August 28, 1967, the Sun'en line as well. For cost reasons, the state railway stopped handling goods on January 21, 1984, and checked baggage on March 14, 1985. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the ownership of the new company JR Central on April 1, 1987 . Today's reception building was created out of the need to better connect the districts on both sides of the station. After plans for a new building were presented for the first time in 2007, it was opened on November 30, 2014.
