The Graal-Müritz station is located in the municipality of the same name in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the Rövershagen – Graal-Müritz railway line .

The station started operating in 1925. Due to the poor condition of the entire route, the last scheduled passenger train first stopped at the station in 1999. In 2004 the line and station were reactivated. The original station was disconnected from the network and replaced by a new breakpoint in an offset position. In addition, there are two other stops on the route in the Graal-Müritz area or on its border.

The station building of the old train station was a listed building, but was removed from the list of monuments after renovation and renovations.

Location of the operating locations

The former Graal-Müritz train station was in the east of the Graal district. The railway line does not run through the northeastern district of Müritz. The new stop, which replaces the old stop, is 400 meters to the west. The level crossing in between is no longer in operation. The Graal-Müritz Koppelweg stop is already after the next 600 meters to the west, and Rostock-Torfbrücke about 800 meters further on. The distance between these four operating locations is just 1.8 kilometers.

history

Graal-Müritz station in May 1992

The places Graal and Müritz developed into bathing and health resorts in the course of the 19th century. For this reason one saw the need to connect the places to the rail network. A connection to the Stralsund – Rostock railway was considered. But at first it didn't happen. Only with the newly founded Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn AG did the plans become more concrete. The line from Rövershagen was opened on July 1, 1925. The end point, which was on Graal territory between the centers of both places, was named Graal-Müritz from the start, which the municipality also took over after the unification of both places in 1938. The station building was not finished on time. The completion came a little later.

The station was laid out in such a way that it would have been possible to extend the line in the direction of Fischland and Darß .

Before the cessation of traffic in 1999, class 628 railcars were also used. Only one platform track was still in use. An existing locomotive circulation track was no longer needed by the railcars and thus became superfluous. Before that, presumably until 1996, locomotives of the V 100 series ran . Often these three carried bathroom scales. Sporadic freight traffic was still possible until the 1990s. There was also a loading track next to the station building. At the western head of the station there was a locomotive shed for the stationing of locomotives. It was used until 1994, but has since been demolished.

On December 26th, 1999 the passenger traffic was stopped for the time being due to massive overhead construction defects. Replacement rail transport with buses was set up.

In 2004, the rehabilitation of the route between Rövershagen and Graal-Müritz began. In the course of the route renovation, the station was tied off from the track network and a new western stop was created. The plants continued to grow. It was not until the summer of 2005 that almost all of the remaining track systems were removed. Platforms, platform lamps and line telephones were initially retained. It was only when the site was converted into a parking lot that the systems were completely removed. After the refurbishment of the reception building, there has been a restaurant since 2005. The station name was reapplied to the building to commemorate its former use. The buffer stop at the eastern end of the station has now also been removed.

The station building was on the list of monuments of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the mid-1990s. It is no longer included on newer lists of monuments after the renovation and renovation of the building.

Operational

The station was always run in a simplified branch line. The dispatcher in Rövershagen had to report the vacancy for every train departure . Therefore, only one train could ever travel the entire route. There were no crossroads. The local switches were manual switches that had to be controlled directly by the train crew. There was a ticket office until the 1990s.

The new Graal-Müritz stop was built in 2004. It went into operation on December 12 of the same year. The stop has a platform track (100 m long and 55 cm high). It ends at a buffer stop just before the abandoned level crossing. There are no loading and freight tracks or switches at this location. For this reason, the use of locomotive-hauled trains, e.g. B. Special trains, only possible with great difficulty.

A bus stop was set up next to the stop, which should make it easy to change to bus transport. There is also a parking space for commuters. A passenger information system has existed in the station since around 2013.

Regional trains on the RB 12 line, which mostly run between Rostock and Graal-Müritz and are operated by DB Regio , serve the station every hour.

Koppelweg stop (2012)

The Graal-Müritz Koppelweg stop was only opened on December 10, 2006. The material of the platform is special because it is made of fiberglass composite. From the Koppelweg stop, the way to the center of Graal is short, which makes it attractive for tourists. Despite the small distances between the stations in the municipality, some passengers use the train on the sections in Graal-Müritz.

Rostock peat bridge

Rostock Torfbrücke (2012)

Rostock-Torfbrücke The Rostock-Torfbrücke stopin the village ofTorfbrückeis on the Rostock area south of the Graal-Müritz border. Since it was a little closer to the center of Graal than the Graal-Müritz train station, it was initially calledGraal Schwanenberg. Until the 1990s it was called "Ostseebad Graal-Müritz Schwanenberg". This was the longest station name in the former GDR. From the mid-1990s until the route was renovated around the year 2000, it was even called theOstseeheilbad Graal-Müritz Schwaneberg. After the line was reactivated, it was renamedRostock-Torfbrücke.

The small reception building with a waiting room and ticket office was in operation until the 1990s. Today it is used privately. The renovation of the stop in 2004 was quite complex. Extensive earthworks were necessary for the work because of the boggy subsoil. The stop was equipped with modern signage and a small shelter. A passenger information system now also exists.
