Bernd Schmidt (born May 13, 1947 in Graz , Styria ; † September 23, 2016 there ) was an Austrian writer , composer , illustrator and cultural journalist .

He was the author of children's books and the author and illustrator of numerous satirical volumes. He wrote cabaret programs and program contributions, chanson texts, screenplays as well as plays and arrangements.

Life

Bernd Schmidt was born in Graz and, after graduating from high school in 1965, began studying German, history and philosophy at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz. From 1969 on he taught for three years as an AHS teacher for German and history at the Lichtenfels Federal High School in Graz. Afterwards he worked for decades as a (culture) editor in Graz, initially at “Süd-Ost Tagespost” and “Kleine Zeitung” and in the meantime as an employee at “ ORF Steiermark ”. From 1988 to 2002 he was the head of the culture section of the “Steirerkrone” (“Kronen Zeitung”).

From 2002 Schmidt worked as a freelance writer, composer, painter, illustrator and freelance cultural journalist.
