Location of Torfbrücke in Rostock
|
Torfbrücke is the district of the Hanseatic City of Rostock furthest from the center . It is located in the north of the Rostock Heath on the Baltic Sea .
Geographical location
Torfbrücke is located about 17.5 km north-northeast of the historic core of the city of Rostock. The place is surrounded in the west, south and east by the forest of the Rostocker Heide, in the north it borders directly - only separated by the river ditch - on the neighboring community Graal-Müritz . In the south of the district is Müggenburg, which - located in the middle of the forest - consists of just one piece of land.
The river ditch drains most of the Rostock Heath. It flows into the Baltic Sea at Torfbrücke (Uhlenflucht campsite).
To the west of the village of Torfbrücke, the coastal forest bears the name Gespensterwald, as the beeches in this peculiar forest are stunted and crippled under the constant influence of the sea breeze and offer an unusual sight.
The place and surroundings are about two meters above sea level . A noticeable elevation is the Dachsberg southeast of the town with 8.4 meters above sea level .
The Baltic Sea and the natural sandy beach of the place are about 1.5 km away.
From 1957 there were plans to connect the Breitling with the Saaler Bodden for shipping by building a coastal canal . Based on these plans, work began in 1961. For cost reasons, the coastal canal project was discontinued in 1962. The excavation sites at Torfbrücke in the Rostocker Heide and Hof Körkwitz near Ribnitz can still be found today. They have been left to their own devices and have thus become part of the respective natural environment.
history
An important point in the local history is the construction of the road from Graal-Müritz to Hinrichshagen in 1905, which runs directly through the peat bridge and enabled a better connection to Rostock. Since the completion of the Rövershagen – Graal-Müritz railway line on July 1, 1925, there has also been a train connection from Torfbrücke to Rostock main station.
Torfbrücke was incorporated into Rostock on December 9, 1924 and today belongs to the Rostock local authority Northwest 1, but has the phone code and postcode of Graal-Müritz.
traffic
The Rostock-Torfbrücke stop ("Ostseebad Graal-Müritz Schwanenberg" until the line was rebuilt in 2004) is located on the single-track Rövershagen-Graal-Müritz section of the Rostock-Graal-Müritz railway and is served by the Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn (regional train line 12) . The trains run almost every hour, outside the summer season on weekends only every two hours.
Along this railway line, the Müggenburg depot used to be a second station in the south of the Torfbrücke district.
By car, Torfbrücke is connected to Ribnitz-Damgarten (via Graal Müritz) in the north and Rostock ( Dierkow district ) in the south to the B105 .
