Location of Biestow in Rostock

Biestow is a district in the south of the city of Rostock .

history

The former farming village south of Rostock was first mentioned in writing on May 6, 1282. Its early name Bystove is of Slavic origin and refers to the first family that owned it (translation: Place des Bysta). In 1355 Biestow was sold to a Rostock council family and remained in patrician ownership under changing families for 140 years . The lords of the college of Sankt Jakobi zu Rostock acquired the village in 1495, which made it the property of the church. After the Reformation , Biestow was administered from February 8, 1571 by the ducal consistory of Rostock, later by the Schwaan office and from 1857 by the Toitenwinkel office.

After Hufe V (around 10% of the community area) had already been incorporated into Rostock by decree with effect from April 1, 1939, the rest of the village was incorporated into Rostock on July 1, 1950 and today forms the Biestow district. In 1995/1996, two residential areas for single-family, semi-detached and terraced houses were built around the listed historical location, which has retained its rural character, one of which is now also connected to Rostock's southern city in terms of urban planning .

building

The very well preserved and restored Biestower village church , a field stone church with a three-part nave, was consecrated in 1298. Since then, extensive changes have been made to it, for example to the tower in the 19th century. Also worth mentioning about this church are a crucifix from the 14th century, medieval ceiling paintings and the restored Friese organ .

In the district and meeting center (SBZ) for Biestow and the southern part of the city, there is a wide range of activities for all generations in addition to the open meeting place for children and young people.
