history

The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) opened the first section of the Rumoi Main Line between Fukagawa and Rumoi on October 23, 1910 . The station that was in operation at the same time was initially called Numata ( 沼 田 ), and received its current name on April 25, 1924. With the opening of the first section of the Sasshō line to Shin-Totsukawa , Ishikari-Numata became a hub on October 10, 1931 , four years later the continuous connection to Sōen was completed.

In support of the rationing measures during the Pacific War , the Ministry of Railways declared the section between Ishikari-Numata and Ishikari-Oiwake to be a "non-urgent route" and temporarily closed it on June 21, 1944. After more than twelve years, the Japanese State Railways reversed this measure on November 16, 1956. Nevertheless, the northernmost part of the Sasshō line did not last long: the state railway finally shut it down on June 19, 1972 and later rebuilt the route . For cost reasons, the state railway stopped handling goods on November 15, 1982, and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 .
