The Itabashi Station ( Jap. 板橋駅 , Itabashi-eki ) is located in Itabashi in Tokyo , Japan .

history

On March 1, 1885, the station was opened as a freight station by the first private railway company in Japan, the Nippon Tetsudō ( 日本 鉄 道 , literally: "Japan Railway"). On November 1, 1906, with the nationalization of all private railway companies , the station became the property of the forerunners of the Japanese state railway . From October 12, 1909, the station was approached by the Yamanote line, which had not yet been completed in a ring, and passenger operations began. The section on which the station is located, between Ikebukuro and Akabane , was not renamed the Akabane line until July 15, 1972. Another renaming of the approaching line followed a few years later, when the Akabane line was on September 30, 1985 completely on the route of the newly opened Saikyō line .

On April 1, 1987, through the privatization of the state railway, the station became the property of JR Higashi-Nihon . On March 16, 1996, the goods operation was finally given up after 110 years and in 1999 the associated facilities of the freight yard were finally torn down.

Type of construction and tracks

The most common design of the station is a through station on the ground floor. It has a total of two platform tracks which approach a single central platform.
