Akabane line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Akabane Line ( Japanese 赤 羽 線 , Akabane-sen ) is part of the network of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) in northern Tokyo . A separate name Akabane Line was abolished in 1985, since then the trains have been running on the line as the Saikyō Line .

The Akabane Line connects Ikebukuro with the Akabane Transfer Station . The Saikyō line and Shōnan-Shinjuku line from Ōmiya meet in Akabane , which continue from here to Shinjuku , as well as the Keihin-Tōhoku line and Utsunomiya line (Tōhoku main line) , which connect Akabane with Ueno .

The trains on the route are notorious for being particularly congested during commuter times, even by Tokyo standards.
