The Hakushin Line ( Japanese 白 新 線 , Hakushin-sen ) is a Japanese railway line in Niigata Prefecture , which runs between Niigata and Shibata stations and is operated by the East Japan Railway Company .

history

The line was put into operation on December 23, 1952. Initially, only the section between Shibata and Toyosaka (original name Kuzutsuka ) was realized. On April 15, 1956, the entire line was completed.

Although it was decided in 1974 to double-track the entire line, the section between Niizaki and Shibata has only been single-tracked to this day.

Railway stations & operations

The 27.3 km long route is served by one continuous and two express connections.

The Benibana express connection ( べ に ば な ) was part of the Asahi connections ( あ さ ひ ) that connected Niigata with Sendai and Yamagata until 1982 . With the construction of the Jōetsu and Yamagata Shinkansen , the connections were set. The Benibana connections were created to cover the need for an express offer.

The second express connection operated on the Hakushin Line is the Inaho connection ( い な ほ ), which runs between Niigata and Aktia or Aomori . It only stops at Niigata, Toyosaka and Shibata stations on the Hakushin Line.

The Niigata Kamotsu Terminal freight yard belongs to the Hakushin Line in terms of traffic law.
