Gala-Yuzawa Railway Station

The Gala-Yuzawa Line ( Japanese ガ ー ラ 湯 沢 線 , Gāra-Yuzawa-sen ) is the unofficial name of a 1.8 km short branch line of the Japanese high-speed line Jōetsu-Shinkansen .

history

The branch from Echigo-Yuzawa station was originally built for operational reasons during the construction of the Jōetsu Shinkansen. With the establishment of the Gala-Yuzawa ski area by the East Japan Railway Company , the route was rebuilt for passenger traffic and a train station was built, which opened on December 20, 1990. The train station is located in the middle of the ski area, so that some ski lifts are directly adjacent to the train station.

business

The Gala-Yuzawa line is only served in the winter months in the ski season and exclusively from Tokyo. All trains on the line are Tanigawa Limited Express connections, which are subject to a surcharge.

Outside the ski season, the branch line is used according to its original function as a turning and positioning system for Jōetsu Shinkansen, which end in Echigo-Yuzawa.

In terms of traffic law, the Gala-Yuzawa line belongs to the narrow-gauge Jōetsu line , but is not connected to its track structure.
