The Yahiko Line ( Japanese 弥 彦 線 , Yahiko-sen ) is a Japanese railway line on the east coast of Japan, operated by JR East . It runs between the city of Sanjō and the village of Yahiko at the foot of Mount Yahiko in Niigata Prefecture .

Until 1985 the route ran to Echigo-Nagasawa and had a length of 25.3 kilometers. For economic reasons, operations on this section were discontinued and henceforth served by buses.

The Yahiko line is served by class 115 trains. In the course of the fiscal year 2014, the old vehicles are to be replaced by new railcars of the E129 ( en ) series .
