The Kitami-Aioi Station ( Jap. 北見相生駅 , Kitami-Aioi-eki ) is a former railway station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It was located in Okhotsk Sub-Prefecture, in the territory of Tsubetsu Township, and operated from 1925 to 1985.
description
Kitami-Aioi was the southern terminus of the 36.8 km long Aioi Line , which branched off from the main Sekihoku line in Bihoro . The station was on the outskirts of the district of Aioi and was oriented from north to south. It had a track for passenger traffic, the station building was on the east side of the facility. There were also several sidings and a pull-out track for freight traffic, a water tower and a turntable . The line ended around 100 meters south of the station on a stump track .
The station remained after the closure as "Aioi Railway Park " ( 相 生 鉄 道 公園 , Aioi tetsudō kōen ). The reception building was renovated and converted into a café. A total of six railway vehicles are permanently exhibited on two tracks. These are a diesel railcar from the KiHa 22 series, a passenger coach , a snow plow and three freight wagons . A service station ( Michi no eki ) opened in 2003 is also part of the railway park .
history
The Ministry of Railways opened the station on November 15, 1925, along with the section of the Aioi Line from Tsubetsu to Kitami-Aioi. It was planned to continue building further south to Kushiro , but this was not done due to financing problems and later no longer appeared urgent because of the opening of the Senmō main line, which ran further east . Plans in the 1960s to connect the Aioi line with the Shiranuka line at Hokushin were also not realized . For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways gave up freight traffic on December 11, 1979, and baggage check-in on February 1, 1984. Finally, on April 1, 1985, it closed the Aioi line.
