Railway stations in Magdeburg

This article gives an overview of the train stations in Magdeburg . Not only passenger stations, but also freight stations and stops are taken into account.

Train stations

Magdeburg-Brückfeld

Location In 1848 the Brückfeld train station went into operation. Passenger traffic took place until the 1870s, after which only goods traffic. In 1998, operations on the routeto Biederitz werediscontinued and the Brückfeld station was closed.

Magdeburg-Buckau

Buckau, reception building, 2008

Location This station went into operation in 1918. In the 1920s a new reception building was built, which was one of the most modern in Germany at the time. The station is on a total of four routes. During construction work at the main train station, some long-distance trains temporarily stopped in Buckau. Today several trains from different railway companies serve the station.

Magdeburg-Buckau station

Location The Buckau depot is located on theSchönebeck – Glindenberg railway line. Traffic on the connection between the Wolfisfelde branch and the Buckau depot was stopped on December 7, 1995.

Magdeburg Elbe station

Location The Elbe station in Magdeburg, which was located on the banks of the Elbe, went into operation on June 30, 1839. With the construction of the main station in 1873, its importance fell sharply. Nevertheless, freight traffic continued. With the closure of theBiederitz – Magdeburg-Buckau line in1998, operations ceased. The systems are largely no longer available. Today there are high quality apartments on the site.

Magdeburg Central Station

Location The Magdeburg main station is next to themain stationin Halle the most important train station in Saxony-Anhalt. Therefore it belongs tostation category2. Five railway lines are bundled in it. Increasingindustrializationmade a central train station in Magdeburg necessary, which was only opened in 1873. In the years that followed, the facilities for both passenger and freight traffic were expanded considerably. Thestation suffered severe damage during theSecond World War. After the fall of the Wall, the first renovation and modernization work took place. The aim isto reorganize the Magdeburgrailway junction. The entire project is calledMagdeburg 21and should finally be completed in 2022. Today the main station is served by several long-distance and numerous regional transport lines.

Magdeburg Neustadt

Neustadt station went into operation on May 15, 1873. Its reception building was built in 1901. It used to be called "Neustadt-Magdeburg". As part of a renovation, the station was relocated from Nachtweide to Lübecker Straße. The tracks were also raised so that the road could be crossed without obstacles.

Since November 30, 2003, Neustadt station has been controlled by the electronic interlocking in Biederitz .

In 2010 the station forecourt was renovated. Around 2000 travelers get on and off every day. This makes it one of the most important train stations in Magdeburg. In 2014 the station building was bought by a private person. Today regional and S-Bahn trains serve Neustadt station.

Magdeburg-Rothensee

Location In 1897, due to a lack of capacity, a marshalling station called "Bude IV" was built to the east of the station. It no longer exists today and is considered the predecessor of Rothensee station.

In 1898 the stop on the Oebisfelde – Magdeburg line was opened. The Rothensee marshalling yard was built between 1908 and 1910. Over a million cubic meters of ground were moved and around 70 kilometers of track and over 200 points were laid. There was a reception building for the people stopping point. In addition, a service building, nine signal boxes, 22 service apartments in five buildings, an overnight building and two locomotive sheds were available for the marshalling yard. The entire construction was around 6.25 million marks. When the S-Bahn traffic between Schönebeck-Bad Salzelmen and Zielitz was started, another track was built so that the trains no longer had to pass through the marshalling yard for passenger traffic. In December 1971, a new stop outside the marshalling yard went into operation.

Magdeburg SKET industrial park

Location The SKET Industriepark train station serves to develop a large industrial area in terms of traffic. The station was previously called Thälmannwerk and went into operation on October 7, 1967. The station is on the routesto LeipzigandThale. Both passenger and freight traffic take place here. Regional trains and the S-Bahn stop at three platforms, a central and a side platform.

The platforms were renewed from July to October 2015. Initially, this should be done with the additions by 2016. A total of 400,000 euros are to be invested. However, the latter will be delayed until 2020.

Magdeburg-Sudenburg

Location The Sudenburg train station on theBraunschweig – Magdeburg routeis the westernmost Magdeburg train station. It was opened for passenger and freight traffic in 1872. In 1932 a connecting curve was built between the Sudenburg and Buckau train stations. An adjacent container terminal was put into operation in 1967. After the fall of the Wall in 1990, this was no longer needed. Since June 22, 2003, the station has beencontrolledby theelectronic interlockingat the main train station. In June / July 2014 extensive track renewal work took place. Today a regional train line serves the station.

Magdeburg southeast

Southeast, reception building, 2010

Location The Südost train station is on theMagdeburg – Leipzig railway line. The first passenger train started at the station on June 30, 1839. The current station building was built in 1894/95. Probably from 1914 the station got its current name "Magdeburg Südost". Before that there were some other names. The freight yard is no longer in operation. A S-Bahn and a regional express line serve the station.

Breakpoints

Beyendorf

The Beyendorf stop is in the southern district of Beyendorf-Sohlen on the Magdeburg – Thale railway line . Regional trains to and from Oschersleben stop every two hours.

Magdeburg Barleber See

Location The Barleber See stop, put into operation in 1967, is located in the far north of Magdeburg inthe district of the same nameon theMagdeburg – Wittenberge railway line. It is only served seasonally from May to September by S-Bahn line 1.

Magdeburg Hasselbachplatz

Location The Hasselbachplatz stop, which is located on the onefrom Magdeburg to Leipzig, went into operation in 1974. S-Bahn trains stop at him.

Magdeburg-Eichenweiler

Location On June 3, 1973, theEichenweilerstop wasopened. Today regional and S-Bahn trains stop there.

Initially, the plan was to renew platform coverings and entrances by 2016. 600,000 euros were earmarked for this. Completion is now planned for 2020.

Magdeburg Herrenkrug

Location In1999the Magdeburg-Herrenkrug stopwas created because of the1999 Federal Horticultural Show, which is served exclusively by regional trains.

Magdeburg-Rothensee Hp

Location In 1898, a platform for passenger traffic was built at “Bude IV”. With the start of the S-Bahn traffic, a new stop was built outside the station.

The station is currently served by S-Bahn trains. By 2016, it was planned to renew the not yet renovated platform 1 including its furniture for 160,000 euros. The project was implemented in summer 2016, but the costs amounted to € 250,000.

Magdeburg-Salbke

Location In the days when it was begun to take Electric traction in Magdeburg was built Salbke between stations Buckau and southeast of the breakpoint, which is operated S-Bahn from.

In summer 2016, the platform coverings and equipment were renewed. 300,000 euros were invested. It is still open when the new access roads will be built.
