The Nijmegen Heyendaal railway station is a station on the Maas line in the Netherlands. Historically, it is located on the left-hand Lower Rhine route . In Nijmegen it is especially important for students, as it connects the Radboud University Nijmegen and some locations of the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN). The latter are located directly at the train station.

The station is served by trains from Arriva Personenvervoer Nederland . The platforms can be reached via a pedestrian bridge.

Tracks 1 and 2 on the Maas line are in operation, while track 3 to Kleve is closed. Since 2011, the platforms are by lifts accessible reach.

history

The station opened on May 28, 1972. From 1979 to 2000 there was a sextant- type station . Then the station building was demolished. Originally the station had three tracks. Tracks 1 and 2 were used for the Nijmegen - Venlo line. The trains to Kleve stopped at platform 3. They have not stopped here since the railway line was closed in 1991. In 2006 the third track was removed for the construction of an independent bus route. This bus route runs along Heyendaalseweg. A bus stop has been set up at the level of the train station.

The former station 't Heilig Land (1918–1925) was a stop on the route to Kleve (and not on the route to Venlo). It was located more than a mile to the south near the Sionsweg in the area of the municipality of Heumen.

outlook

Both Nijmegen and Kleve are planning to reactivate the left-hand Lower Rhine railway between Nijmegen Heyendaal and Kleve in order to better transport the steadily growing number of commuters between the two cities. This connection is still carried out with a NIAG express bus (line 58) , which runs directly between Kleve and Nijmegen. When there is high demand, this very often reaches its limit. It also connects the city centers in a straight line via the N325 and B9 , so that students from Kleve to Nijmegen have to change there once. Kleve would like a reactivation of the railway line and an extension of the RE10, Nijmegen a tram based on the Karlsruhe model . The extension of the Regional-Express 10 scores significantly better than the regional light rail in the cost-benefit assessment.
