The Shokotsu train station ( Japanese 渚 滑 駅 , Shokotsu-eki ) is a former train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It was located in the Okhotsk Sub-Prefecture in the Mombetsu City area and was in operation from 1921 to 1989.

description

Aerial view (1978)

Shokotsu was a separation station on the Nayoro Main Line , which ran from Nayoro to Engaru . Here the Shokotsu line branched off to Kitami-Takinoue . The station was in the Shokotsucho district, about three kilometers northwest of the city center. It was oriented from west to east and had three tracks for passenger traffic. These were located on the main platform and on a central platform that was connected to the station building on the north side of the facility by a covered overpass . There were also several tracks for freight traffic and a small depot with a turntable on the west side of the facility.

The reception building initially served as a waiting room for the neighboring bus stop. Since 1991 the former track field has been used as a facility for park golf, a hybrid of golf and croquet that is widespread in Japan . In 1997 the reception building was demolished and two years later it was replaced by a building used by agricultural organizations and a veterinary clinic.

history

The Ministry of Railways opened the station on March 25, 1921, along with the section of the Nayoro Main Line between Naka-Yūbetsu and Okoppe . On November 5, 1923, the opening of the Shokotsu line to Kitami-Takinoue followed, with which Shokotsu was now a separation station. From 1962 to 1986 express trains also stopped in Shokotsu. The Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods on November 15, 1982, and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. On April 1, 1985, the Shokotsu line was shut down. The Nayoro main line passed into the ownership of JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 as part of the privatization of the state railway and was also shut down by the latter on May 1, 1989.
