The former station building (2013)

The Sneek train station is a train station in the city of Sneek in the province of Friesland ( Netherlands ).

history

The building was erected on the occasion of the commissioning of the first part of the Leeuwarden-Stavoren line and inaugurated on June 16, 1883. From 1883 Sneek was still a terminus . Two years later the section to Stavoren was opened. In 1921 a tram line was opened in the direction of Bolsward to transport goods. This line was discontinued in 1968. In 2007 plans arose to run steam locomotives on the Sneek-Stavoren route, which was to be implemented in 2012 with the opening of the Stoom Stad Sneek theme park , but was ultimately not implemented.

The station building was built in 1882 based on a standard design that was used in four other locations:

Until July 2004 the building was used as a station building. Subsequently, after renovation and reconstruction, the model railway museum Nationaal Modelspoor Museum was housed. The museum was opened on January 29, 2005 by the Queen's Commissioner, Ed Nijpels . The Sneek taxi office is also located in the building.
