List of train stations in the Netherlands |
The Gorinchem railway station is a railway station in the Dutch town of Gorinchem near the city center. The station is on the Betuwelijn between Elst and Dordrecht . The station was put into operation on December 1, 1883.
The line
The station was opened at the same time as the Betuwelijn. For a year and a half, the station was the end of the line until the eastern section was opened in 1885.
Station building
The original station building was of the standard Sneek type , erected in several Dutch locations:
- Gorinchem railway station, built in 1881, demolished in 1971.
- Tiel station , built in 1881, still preserved.
- Sneek train station , built in 1882, still preserved.
- Appingedam train station , built in 1883, demolished in 1981.
- Delfzijl station , built in 1883, still preserved, but clinkered differently.
In 1971 the old building, which was in poor condition, was demolished and a new building was erected. The new building is very similar to Emmen train station . It comes from the same architect Cees Douma .
Investments
At the end of 2007, the railway operator Arriva opened an “Arriva Store” on the site of the former ticket office. There is also a “Café T Espresso” restaurant at the train station, as well as a video-monitored bicycle parking space.
