The Wüstenbrand station is a station on the main Dresden – Werdau line in southwest Saxony . In the past it was a connecting station for the branch lines to Limbach-Oberfrohna and Neuoelsnitz , today it is just a simple through station serving exclusively touring traffic .
history
The station was opened in 1858 as a connecting station in a wedge position for the coal railway to Lugau (which was later extended to Neuoelsnitz) together with the Dresden – Werdau line, with the help of a connecting curve the coal trains could also go directly to Chemnitz . As early as August 1862, the station had to be expanded, since from now on public passenger and goods traffic to Lugau was also started.
1,897 were distance to Limbach opened and expanded the tracks of the station again in 1899, a new were the same reason reception as well as a farm building for a total of about 85,000 Mark built.
The decline of the station began in the 1950s, in 1950 passenger and freight traffic to Limbach was discontinued and the remainder to Grüna was allocated to the Chemnitz – Obergrüna line . After the reunification in eastern Germany , there was also no traffic to Neuoelsnitz in 1990.
In the course of the expansion of the Dresden – Werdau railway line , the track systems were largely dismantled at the end of the 1990s. In addition to the two continuous main tracks, only two overtaking tracks, each with an outside platform, and two sidings remain.

In the 1995/96 timetable year, the express train 1667 from Munich to Dresden always stopped in Wüstenbrand on Fridays .
In the 2017 timetable, Wüstenbrand station is served hourly by the regional train line RB 30 Zwickau – Chemnitz – Dresden, and every half hour during rush hour on working days.
