The station was opened as a stop on the Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf railway line by the Chemnitz-Aue-Adorfer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft on November 15, 1875. When operations opened, the station had a reception building, three continuous tracks west of the reception building and a turntable. The trains on the Zwota – Klingenthal railway from Klingenthal, which opened on December 24, 1875, initially ended in a separate terminus section east of the reception building. In 1877 a separate boiler house , a water station and a loading ramp were built, in 1878 a goods shed. With the Klingenthal – Untergraslitz border connection opened in 1886 and the Falkenstein – Muldenberg railway line opened in 1892, transport services increased further. By 1899, the station, which was upgraded to a station on July 1, 1898, was expanded to include eight continuous tracks - four of which were platform tracks. The terminal station for the trains to Klingenthal was integrated into the main line towards Muldenberg, thus creating an island station . Since the turn of the century, two signal boxes had also been put into operation, with which the switches on the main tracks and the signals could be remotely controlled.

In 1913 there were 23 points, ten continuous tracks - five of which were platform tracks. From 1934 the boiler house was used as a small car shed. An independent office until 1973, from 1974 the station was subordinate to the Klingenthal station . At around the same time, a signal box was taken out of service.

Of the extensive station facilities, only two tracks to the west of the reception building for train crossings are left today; the rest of the tracks were dismantled in 1997. The reception building, which was expanded again in the 1930s, is also empty and has no function. It belongs to station category 7. In 2019 the platform lighting was renewed. Furthermore, the access from the public road to the train station was equipped with new lighting.
