history

Reception building of the Zwotental train station

Until the 19th century was the name "Zwotenthal" in the spelling with "h" for the Valley of Zwota lying settlements Zwota and Oberzwota and between them hammer Zwotenthal, but especially for Oberzwota common.

In 1875, at the branch of the newly opened railway line to Klingenthal from the newly opened Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf line on Gunzener Flur, the "Zwota station" was opened. In 1909 it was named " Zwotental station " in the spelling without an h. The station, located at an altitude of 675 m, was built next to a station building from 1875, a separate boiler house (1877), a goods shed (1878), a signal box (around 1900), a farm building and several residential buildings.

At the same time as the Zwotental station, the Zwotental settlement, which bore the station's name, was built around the station. As a result of its location in the corridor of the village of Gunzen, Zwotental has belonged to the Oelsnitz administration since the station was founded in 1875 , but the neighboring Oberzwota was already part of the Auerbach administration . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Zwotental became part of the municipality of Gunzen in 1952 and became part of the Klingenthal district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Klingenthal in 1990 and became part of the Vogtland district in 1996.

By incorporating the community of Gunzen into Schöneck / Vogtl. the Zwotental settlement became a part of the Gunzen district within the town of Schöneck / Vogtl on May 1, 1995. On December 8, 2012, the scheduled local rail passenger transport on the Zwotental– Adorf (Vogtl) section was canceled by the responsible Vogtland transport association . Since then, the Zwotental station has only been used in the Klingenthal and Schöneck / Vogtl directions . / Falkenstein / Vogtl. served by the Vogtlandbahn . In the Zwotental there is a landfill that was operated until the 1990s and has since been recultivated.
