The Bahnhofplatz 1 building is a commercial building in Munich's Ludwigsvorstadt opposite the main train station .

The building in the neo-renaissance style was built in 1871 according to plans by Georg von Dollmann and was initially called the Oberpostamtsgebäude and Royal Telegraph Central Station and then the Imperial Post and Telegraph Office . In 1949 it was damaged, but rebuilt true to the original. With the exception of the cellar, the floor area is 12,000 m².

The building is registered as a monument in the Bavarian List of Monuments . The description reads:

“Broadly supported four-storey hipped roof building around the inner courtyard with corner projections, essentially neo-Renaissance, planned and built by Georg Dollmann in 1869–71. Expanded in 1912 and, after damage in World War II, restored by H. Nestler in 1949 with a simplified facade design (plaster band structure). "

In 1998 and 2011 the building was refurbished for a total of € 20 million.

There is still a post office on the ground floor today. Until the 1990s there was still the so-called Bayerpost (today Hotel Sofitel ), the superior post office Munich 2 in Hopfenstrasse ( Hopfenpost ) and a small post office on the first floor of the main train station. Until the 1990s, it was the only post office in Munich that was open until late in the evening and on Sundays and public holidays.

There is a Rewe supermarket in the basement on the Schützenstrasse side. From autumn 2015 to November 2017, most of the building was converted into a hotel ( 25hours Hotel The Royal Bavarian , 165 rooms); The opening took place on November 3, 2017.
