The Ballstädt – Straussfurt line was a single-track branch line in Thuringia . The 32.15 km long route was opened in stages. The section from Ballstädt to Herbsleben went into operation on December 15, 1889, followed by the extension to Bad Tennstedt on July 17, 1895. The rest of the line was opened on June 1, 1906.

The first section between Ballstädt and Gräfentonna was dismantled as reparation in 1947. The other section via Bad Tennstedt was operated in full length until 1997, but then the local rail transport was discontinued due to technical defects between Döllstädt and Bad Tennstedt on April 27, 1997 and between Bad Tennstedt and Straussfurt on May 24, 1998. It was officially shut down on July 31 and August 31, 1999.

At the beginning of 2008, DB Services Immobilien GmbH offered the disused Döllstädt – Straussfurt section for sale.

The tracks have now been dismantled, and near Herbsleben, a cycle path leads past parts of the embankment.
