The Kühnhausen – Bad Langensalza line is a single-track branch line in central Thuringia . It connects the state capital Erfurt with the spa town Bad Langensalza . She is also nicknamed Hängebittel .

history

The railway line (Erfurt–) Kühnhausen – Bad Langensalza was put into operation on November 25, 1897. Between Döllstädt and Gräfentonna, the line from Erfurt to Bad Langensalza was bundled with the line from Ballstädt to Straussfurt, which had existed since 1889 .

From May 24, 1998 the railway line was operated by the Erfurt Railway (EB 1). Vehicles of the type Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 were used here. The trains ran from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. every hour with an intersection in Kühnhausen and in off-peak times every 2 hours from Erfurt to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe or Mühlhausen and required one trip from Erfurt Hbf to Bad Langensalza 43 to 52 minutes.

Since the timetable change on December 15, 2013, the DB Regio Südost has been operating on the route . This alternates between regional and regional express trains (series 641 and 642 ) under the name of Nordthüringenbahn . The latter only stop at a few subway stations, but this shortens the travel time between Erfurt and Bad Langensalza to under 40 minutes.
