Kleinballhausen is a district of the municipality of Ballhausen in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

Kleinballhausen is located on the northern edge of the Unstrut lowland in the middle of the Thuringian Basin east of Bad Tennstedt . Both Kleinballhausen and Großballhausen are located close to each other on Landesstraße 3176 as neighboring districts.

history

Kleinballhausen was first mentioned in a document on July 7th, 1128. There was a castle with the same name near the manor house . 1258 another Eckhard von Kleinballhausen was named. Both the castle of Kleinballhausen and that of Großballhausen were pledged to the Archdiocese of Mainz in 1297 . At the end of the 19th century there were still remains of the castle. Now only trenches are visible. Klein- and Großballhausenen were located on an important old trade route that led through the valley of the Gera river from Arnstadt to here and further over the Hainleite .

Until 1815 Kleinballhausen belonged to the Electoral Saxon office of Weißensee .
