Soon after the opening of the Soissons – Givet railway from Reims to the north on June 10, 1858, interest aroused in building a branch line into the Suippe valley . To this end, the Compagnie du Chemin de fer de la Suippe was founded , which on May 15, 1868 acquired a concession for the construction and operation of a railway from Bazancourt to Bétheniville . As early as November 27, 1868, the state declared the line to be of public use. The same decree approved a contract for the operation of the line concluded on May 14, 1868 between the Gesellschaft de la Suippe and the Chemin de fer de l'Est (EST). The operating company thus allows EST to use the operating facilities for a fee. Initially, only a single track was opened on May 11, 1872, but a second track was soon added to cope with the increasing workload. The company agreement between the Suippebahn and EST remained unchanged. On December 6, 1886, the line was extended to Challerange . It thus linked the Marne and Ardennes departments .

In the same year 1886 the Amagne-Lucquy-Revigny line was extended to the Pont-Maugis-Lérouville line . Later it was built up to Marcq-Saint-Juvin.

During the First World War , the route and the surrounding villages were severely damaged. Only a few railwaymen's houses and the train stations in Dontrien , Sommepy and Ardeuil-Marvaux survived the war and have been preserved. The other stations received new buildings of the type "Reconstruction". The Manre Tunnel, which was destroyed by the effects of the war in February 1918, was replaced by a cut into the terrain. After the Second World War, one track was removed from the entire route.

On July 5, 1971, the line between Sommepy and Challerange was also closed to freight traffic. Challerange itself could still be served on the Amagne-Lucquy-Revigny railway line until the station was no longer served on July 15, 2008. In 1989 the Dontrien – Sommepy section was closed. The route has not been maintained since 2013 and was finally closed on October 16, 2018.
