The Bodenwöhr Nord – Rötz line was a branch line in Bavaria . It ran in the Upper Palatinate from Bodenwöhr via Neunburg vorm Wald to Rötz .

history

On August 3, 1896, opened the Bavarian State Railways an eleven-kilometer standard gauge track that at the station Bodenwöhr North in the district Bodenwoehr-Blechhammer from Schwandorf-Furth im Wald railway branched off and led to the small town of Neunburg vorm Wald, the then seat a district office was.

During the First World War , it was extended on August 7, 1915 in an easterly direction to Rötz in what was then the district office of Waldmünchen . In the course of the railway construction, the Neunburg train station also had to be relocated. However, the extension of the route led to a deterioration in the operating result.

After the 3-stage plan of the Deutsche Bundesbahn for line closures, drafted under "Strictly confidential", became known, in 1965 Mayor and City Council of Rötz resigned in protest against the planned closure of this line in the border area, "in order to address the reckless behavior of the Federal Railroad and to draw the attention of the Federal Government ".

After the timetable had already been greatly reduced - on weekdays only two passenger trains ran to Neunburg vorm Wald and one to Rötz - scheduled passenger traffic ended on December 13, 1969. Freight traffic between Neunburg v. Wald and Rötz were hired at the same time. Only a few special excursion trains ran to Neunburg v. Neunburg v. Forest. Disadvantages for an economical operation of the route were u. a. the distance of individual train stations to remote places, the winding route in the valley and the planned construction of the Eixendorf dam , through which a considerable part of the railway line was flooded. The route was used for one of the first federal German railway bicycle routes.

The volume of goods fell from around 18,000 tons / year in the 1970s to less than 7,500 tons / year in the 1980s. The rail loads for the Neunburg v. Forest-stationed troops were relocated to this station from the barracks armored gate to Bodenwöhr station after completion of the new wide road. In 1993 only approx. 3000 tons were transported and in 1994 less than 2000 tons. Freight traffic ceased on October 15, 1994, and the last train journey took place two days later. The line was dismantled in 1998/99. A cycle path was laid out on the route.
