Location of Eixendorf in Bavaria |
Eixendorf is a district of the town of Neunburg vorm Wald in the Schwandorf district in Bavaria .
geography
Eixendorf is about six kilometers east of Neunburg vorm Wald on the former Bodenwöhr – Rötz railway line in the Eixendorftalsperre area .
history
The name Eixendorf comes from the settlement of an Isso, Ihso or Izo. In 1416 a Hans von Forster zu Eyssendorf was mentioned.
On March 23, 1913, Eixendorf was part of the parish of Neunburg vorm Wald and had 13 houses and 66 inhabitants.
In 1975 the Eixendorftalsperre was put into operation. Most of Eixendorf sank in the created reservoir.
On December 31, 1990 Eixendorf had 21 residents and belonged to the parish of Neunburg vorm Wald.
State road 2151 was expanded to connect the cities of Rötz and Neunburg vorm Wald . It leads on a bridge over the northern foothills of the Eixendorfer reservoir. Since the wide road in the mountainous, wooded and unclear terrain leads to inattentive and fast driving, several accidents have already resulted.
Culture and sights
When the reservoir was built, the figure of the "stoanern Steffl" from the 17th or 18th century was moved near the house at Eixendorf 5. This sculpture is the life-size figure of a bearded, naked man, the loin wrapped in a wreath of leaves, a tree trunk in the right hand, the left hand on the broad chest. It bears a resemblance to the wild men in the city arms on the east side of the Neunburg town hall. At first the figure stood on a bridge over the Schwarzach opposite the sculpture of a fish woman. This bridge collapsed during a flood in 1784 or 1824, whereby the female figure was lost. The male figure was then integrated into the wall of a mill until the reservoir was built.
