Hofenstetten is a district of the town of Neunburg vorm Wald in the Schwandorf district in Bavaria .

Hofenstetten is about ten kilometers west of Neunburg vorm Wald in the Upper Palatinate Lake District .

history

The name Hofenstetten (also: Hauenstetten) suggests a farmstead, an estate the size of a quarter Hube , or the farm of a Haffo or Hohfried.

Hofenstetten was first mentioned in a document in 1326. It belonged to the Neunburg office in 1593 and 1615. The Galgenacker and the Mühlacker were on the western outskirts of Hofenstetten.

The former Engelmühle near Hofenstetten was operated by Engelbach - now the Brennergraben.

On March 23, 1913 Hofenstetten belonged to the Fuhrn branch of the parish Kemnath near Fuhrn , consisted of 21 houses and had 117 inhabitants.

On December 31, 1990 Hofenstetten had 128 inhabitants and belonged to the Fuhrn branch of the parish of Kemnath near Fuhrn.

Culture and sights

St. Sebastian (2012)

The Church of St. Sebastian was built between 1724 and 1728. On the gallery there is a wooden relief from around 1550 depicting a Madonna with two putti. During the plague around 1667, a pilgrimage to this church was made from Neunburg. A resident of Hofenstettn is depicted in the medallion on the main altar.

On the road to Fuhrn there is a field chapel with an image of the Madonna.

The Upper Palatinate Lake District , in the middle of which Hofenstetten is located, offers many opportunities for leisure activities, such as hiking, Nordic walking, mountain biking, swimming, diving, sailing, surfing, camping, etc.

The 4-star superior resort Landhotel Birkenhof is located in Hofenstetten. With its two Michelin-starred restaurant “Obendorfers Eisvogel” and a large spa and wellness area, it is an important host in the Neunburg vorm Wald region.
