Thann is located about eight kilometers east of Neunburg vorm Wald and south of the Eixendorfer reservoir at the foot of the 637 meter high Thannerberg.

history

The name Thann indicates a settlement on the edge of a fir forest. Since this place name is very common, the history of Thann is difficult to fathom.

1080 indicates the mention of the name Gotescaleo by Tanna in a document to Thann. In 1210 a Rupert von Tann was named. The Thanner, Geiganter, Stör and Nothracht were mentioned as owners of Thann in the 15th century.

From the year 1517 there is a decision of the bishop of Regensburg that the pastor of Penting has to celebrate a mass every year on St. Barbara (December 4th) in Thann and must hear the confession against payment of one Metzen oat per house and that Edelmann, his housewife and his subjects on Tuesday after Palm Sunday , the Communion is to donate. In 1618 Thann belonged to Hans Andre von Murach, and in 1620 to Hans Sigmund Portner, who had to leave the country because he did not want to become Catholic. Thann was temporarily awarded to the Freising City Master Franz Bremb. With the Peace of Westphalia , Hans Sigmund Portner got Thann back in 1650. He paid homage in 1652 . In 1695 Wilhelm Ludwig Rummel von Pfrentsch was named as the owner of Thann.

In the 18th century Arnold Ignatz Bremb, Michl Erasmus Fleischmann, Franz Bernhard Fleischmann, Maria Johanna von Reisach, H. Girlitzer and the gentlemen von Schrenck were mentioned as owners of Thann.

In 1865, Thann was parried from Penting to Seebarn .

On March 23, 1913, Thann belonged to the Seebarn parish, consisted of 17 houses and had 87 residents.

On December 31, 1990, Thann had 74 residents and belonged to the parish of Seebarn.
