The Borschomi – Bakuriani railway line ( Georgian ბორჯომი-ბაკურიანის ხაზი ხაზი , Borschomi -Bakurianis sarkinigso chasi ) is the last narrow-gauge railway operated by the Georgian Railway .

Geographical location

The narrow-gauge railway connects Borjomi on the Khashuri – Wale railway line with the Bakuriani winter sports resort in the Lesser Caucasus . The railway overcomes a height difference of 900 m. The route runs through the Gudscharetiszqali gorge and mostly through dense forest.

Infrastructure

The route is 39 km long and electrified with 1500 volts direct current .

history

In 1887 a company was founded to build a narrow-gauge railway line between Borjomi and Bakuriani . This company was taken over by the Transcaucasian Railway in 1894 . The railway line did not go into operation until January 1902. Electrical operation began in 1966. There used in Georgia several narrow-gauge railways of this gauge, which have set but either their operations or to the country usual Russian broad gauge umgespurt were. The Borjomi – Bakuriani railway is the last of these lines still in operation.

business

Two trips in each direction are offered per day. Two train sets are available for this. These are wagon trains with locomotives. The railway uses central buffers and a screw coupling . Class ЧС 11 locomotives that were built in Dubnica nad Váhom - former Czechoslovakia - operate . The starting point of the journeys is the local freight station in Borjomi . The associated depot is located there . The freight was set a long time ago.
