The Katowice Szopienice Północne – Chorzów Stary railway line is a double-track, electrified and freight-only railway line in the Upper Silesian industrial area of the Silesian Voivodeship .

Course and condition

The line begins at Katowice Szopieniec Północny station (Schoppinitz Nord) and runs northwest via Katowice Dąbrówka Mała (Eichenau; km 2.048), from where there was a connecting track in the direction of Katowice station , and Siemianowice Śląskie (State Railway Station Laurahütte; km 6.152) to Chorzów Stary (Chorzow; km 12.126) on the Chorzów – Tczew railway line .

The line is double-tracked and electrified. The maximum speed of one track is fifty kilometers per hour for all types of train up to 4.350 kilometers, then seventy, on the other track it is fifty throughout.

history

The line was opened on November 15, 1868 by the Rechten Oderufer Railway . It was expanded to two tracks by 1942, on April 1, 1968 passenger traffic was discontinued, and electrification was completed on April 25, 1990.
