The Galanta – Leopoldov railway is a double-track, electrified main line in western Slovakia . It serves mainly as a connection between the two main lines Bratislava – Budapest and Bratislava – Žilina , in order to bypass the Bratislava node.

history

The line from Galanta to Sereď was opened on November 1, 1883, which connected to the existing line to Trnava. The Sereď – Leopoldov line was opened on July 20, 1885 to avoid the time-consuming turning in Trnava station and to create a direct connection from Budapest to the Upper Silesian Coal Region.

The whole line was expanded to two tracks in the years 1909–1910. In 1979 the Galanta – Sereď section was electrified and in 1984 the rest of the Leopoldov section followed.

Today there are several local trains from Galanta to Bratislava, Trnava, Senica and Kúty and between Sereď and Leopoldov.
