The Lindthal – Altdöbern Süd railway is a single-track electrified main line in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district of Brandenburg . The approximately 17-kilometer route connects Finsterwalde on the Halle – Cottbus railway and Großräschen on the Lübbenau – Kamenz railway . The actual route begins at the Lindthal junction seven kilometers east of Finsterwalde and ends at the Altdöbern Süd junction around five kilometers north of Großräschen.

history

The railway was created by the Deutsche Reichsbahn to avoid a change of direction in Calau , the intersection of the two lines. At first it served exclusively for freight traffic.

Between 1965 and 1973, an extension of the line to the east was built. If new open-cast mining areas are identified, the Halle – Cottbus railway line in the Finsterwalde – Calau – Cottbus section should be relocated there. However, only an embankment and a bridge were built over the L 532 west of Altdöbern; the extension was never completed. The bridge is to be demolished due to instability (status 2014).

On November 30, 1989, electrical operation began on the Falkenberg – Lindthal – Altdöbern Süd section .

Since 1992 there has also been passenger traffic on the route. Initially, some pairs of trains ran between Doberlug-Kirchhain and Senftenberg, from 1995 every two hours. Since 1998, Regional Express trains have also operated every two hours (line RE5, since May 2006 RE3) coming from Berlin via Finsterwalde and Großräschen to Senftenberg. As part of the cut in regionalization funds , the connection from the state of Brandenburg was canceled at the end of 2006. Since then, travelers have been referred to the connection from Großräschen via Lübbenau or to a transfer option from Finsterwalde in Doberlug-Kirchhain to Berlin.
