The Lübbenau – Kamenz railway is a single-track main line in Brandenburg and Saxony , which was originally built and operated by the Berlin-Görlitz Railway Company . It branches off the Berlin – Görlitz railway line in Lübbenau and leads via Calau and Senftenberg to Kamenz in Saxony . There is a connection to the Kamenz – Pirna railway line .
history
The line from Lübbenau via Großräschen , Senftenberg to Kamenz was opened in 1874. In 1882 the Berlin-Görlitzer Railway Company was nationalized and part of the Prussian State Railways . During the GDR era, the Lübbenau – Senftenberg section was of great importance for the local lignite industry and the neighboring lignite opencast mines .
On May 23, 1998, local rail passenger transport on the Hosena – Kamenz section was canceled by the Saxony regional transport company, which was still responsible at the time . Freight traffic as well as occasional, self-employed passenger traffic still take place in this section.
From 2014 to 2016 there were tourist trips on this route with the Lausitzer Seenlandbahn from Dresden, which were connected to an organized daily program at the destination. More than 200 passengers were recorded each year. Boarding the railcars of the DR series VT 2.09 of the Ostsächsische Eisenbahnfreunde association was possible in Kamenz and Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf. It was already planned to order a pair of trains to the Lusatian Lakeland on the weekends of the Saxon summer holidays for 2017 and 2018 . For legal reasons, it was not possible to use the platforms in Bernsdorf and Wiednitz, so that the trains could not run.
In 2019, two pairs of trains were planned between Dresden and Senftenberg on Saturdays during the Saxon summer holidays, which can be used at the normal VVO tariff. As utilities from was traffic Oberelbe the Städtebahn Sachsen mandated that for two of the regular train pairs Dresden Kamenz wanted to extend to Senftenberg. As a result of the city railroad's bankruptcy, the trains did not run.
On June 18, 2020, the responsible transport association Oberelbe announced that one pair of trains will run on the weekends during the 2020 summer holidays. The train stations in Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf, Wiednitz and Hosena are served.
outlook
There are demands from both politics and business to set up a continuous connection from Dresden via Kamenz to Senftenberg. Above all, this is intended to significantly reduce travel times to Berlin and the airports, but also within West Lusatia. A journey from Kamenz to Senftenberg currently takes more than two hours.
