The train station Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf (Oberlausitz) is an operating point of the railway line Lübbenau-Kamenz in the area of ​​the city Bernsdorf . In addition, the Dresden-Klotzsche-Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf railway , which has been closed from Königsbrück to this point since the late 1990s, and the Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf-Hoyerswerda railway , which has also been closed , branched off from here . Local rail passenger transport on the routes in the direction of Königsbrück, Kamenz and Hohenbocka was canceled by the State Transport Company Saxony at the 1998 timetable change. On the other hand, there is still extensive freight traffic, for which extensive track systems are kept in the station. The station has several private connections for goods traffic, including a quarry in Oßling .

The Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf station was built in 1874 with the opening of the Lübbenau – Kamenz railway line. When the railway opened, the tracks and buildings were still quite modest; only three main and four side tracks were available in the station. There was a long dispute over the naming of the station, which was then on the border between Saxony and Prussia . The station was located in the corridor of Straßgräbchen , but was most used by the Prussian side for freight and passenger traffic. It was not until 1927 that the agreement on the name Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf took place . The station was enlarged by the extension of the Dresden-Klotzsche-Schwepnitz railway on December 17, 1934 to Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf and the opening of the Zeißholzbahn to Hoyerswerda around 1911. In addition, the station already had a connection to a quarry at the exit towards Kamenz and to connections in Bernsdorf .

The tracks had to be expanded and rebuilt in 1913 and 1927. During the renovation in 1913, the then existing three-track level crossing in the direction of Kamenz was replaced by an underpass. Over the first underpass the track to the quarry ran Weißig , the second was the track to Kamenz and the third the largest after Koenigsbrueck Its dimension received the station in 1927. It was the still existing station building and the two signal boxes B1 and W2. Other noteworthy high-rise buildings were a goods shed, residential buildings and various smaller buildings. Despite these dimensions and the great shunting services, the station never had a locomotive shed. The close proximity to Kamenz , Hoyerswerda , Königsbrück and Senftenberg made this investment unnecessary.

Until 1934, the station was primarily a cargo handling point, after which there were predominantly military tasks to be carried out. In the same year the station was assigned a small locomotive shed and probably a small locomotive for moving the station. The military training area near Königsbrück brought a lot of traffic to the station. The exterior of the station building was rebuilt around 1934. During the Second World War , all troop movements led to the eastern front via Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf. In 1945 there was some destruction in the area of ​​the station area. The station building burned out completely and a road bridge over the tracks parallel to the B 97 was blown up by the Wehrmacht . In 1947, a 500 m long station track was also dismantled for reparation purposes. The station building was rebuilt by 1952.

The gravel and gravel works were built in Oßling around 1970 and are still in operation today. In 1975 the connection to the ironworks in Bernsdorf was discontinued. In the 1980s, the signal box technology was converted to today's traffic light control . Many level crossings have been converted to half-barrier technology. The Zeißholzbahn ceased operations around 1990 and the line to Königsbrück around 2000 . Since 1998 there has only been freight traffic between Kamenz and Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf. This has led to a significant reduction in the number of railway systems required, but station tracks have not yet been dismantled.

The station has two platforms, the 230 m long house platform next to the reception building and the 175 m long island platform between the tracks next to it. There was a ground-level connection between the two platforms via the tracks.

Today there is no longer any passenger traffic at the Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf station. The platforms are therefore no longer needed. What remains are parts that have not been dismantled, such as the lighting, farm buildings or the former toilet.

Freight traffic had always been the dominant mode of transport in Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf, mainly coal, wood, building materials, glass products, zinc white and a lot of general cargo came by rail. The briquette factory in Zeißholz was initially a bulk buyer of raw lignite from Prussia and delivered finished briquettes by rail. Up to 1992, trains ran here and there. In the period up to 1989, the Oßling gravel and split works provided the majority of the transport services. At peak times, six ballast trains with a load of 2,000 t left the station here. Production still exists today, but transport has often been shifted to the road, so that today only a ballast train leaves the station. In addition, a tank farm in Cunnersdorf is still served by the railway today . On the Dresden-Klotzsche-Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf railway, it was particularly military traffic that was an important mainstay of the station until 1989, although it was only handled sporadically.

In contrast, travel was of little importance. It was mainly regional trains that used the routes through Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf except for the Zeißholzbahn. Although there were occasional outstanding services such as train traffic with the VT 18.16 , that was mainly in the rerouting traffic of the express train when the Bautzen – Hoyerswerda railway line was not available . Regular services over the years, on the other hand, were the passenger train from Dresden Hbf to Cottbus via Arnsdorf , Kamenz and further via Hosena , which ran here until around 1989.

In 1874, four pairs of trains ran daily on the Lübbenau – Kamenz railway line. In 1894, four pairs of trains also ran on the same route. In the same year, the trains on the Dresden-Klotzsche-Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf line ended in Königsbrück. In 1914 there were already seven pairs of trains running on the Lübbenau – Kamenz railway through the Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf station, this year the trains only ran to Schwepnitz on the Klotzsche – Königsbrück railway line .

In 1935, eight trains from the direction of Königsbrück reached the station, of which only five drove the entire route from Dresden. In 1943, however, there were only five pairs of trains on this route, at the same time six trains ran through the station on the Lübbenau – Kamenz line, two of which only ran on weekdays.

In 1950/1951 five pairs of trains ran. In 1960, five trains on the Klotzsche – Königsbrück line reached the Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf station, most of them ended in Königsbrück.

Most recently, seven pairs of trains ran from Dresden via Königsbrück to the Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf station, two of them only on weekdays. In 1998, passenger traffic ended both on the Lübbenau – Kamenz railway between Hosena, Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf and Kamenz and between Königsbrück and Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf.

Of the previous 120 to 130 train journeys, only half are carried out today.
