The Straßgräbchen-Bernsdorf-Hoyerswerda railway line (also known as the Zeißholzbahn ) was a 17 km long, standard-gauge industrial line in what is now the Free State of Saxony . It was created in 1911 from two interconnected individual routes, which in turn came from horse-drawn trams from several open-cast mines and other industrial companies.

history

Since 1882, glassworks owners have operated a standard-gauge and approx. 1.5 km long horse-drawn tram, which started at the Straßgräbchen station on the Lübbenau – Kamenz line, which was opened in 1877 . In the following years it was extended to an open- cast brown coal mine 3.5 km away .

As early as July 1881, a 750 mm horse-drawn tram to the Hoyerswerda station was opened further north in another lignite mine (Amalia opencast mine) , to which other pits were quickly connected. With the cessation of lignite mining in the Amalia open-cast mine, operation of the narrow-gauge railway, which was meanwhile powered by steam locomotives , came to a standstill in 1904. After the gauge change in 1906, it made sense to connect the two lines, which happened in 1911. At the same time, the Bernsdorf thoroughfare was removed by relocating the route, which was a hindrance to the increased transport services. But the old Streckengleis served until 1928 various companies as a siding .

In 1957, traffic between the Zeißholz briquette factory and the Bröthener brickworks was stopped and the tracks were subsequently dismantled. Several sidings were served on the two remaining sections until the beginning of the 1990s, but traffic has now also ended here.

The line was almost completely dismantled after 2000.
