Swell:

The Nikšić – Podgorica railway is a 56.2 kilometer long railway line in Montenegro between the capital Podgorica and Nikšić , the country's second largest city.

history

The line was built in 1948 as a narrow-gauge railway (760 mm) and switched to standard gauge in 1965 . Nikšić had already been connected to the narrow-gauge Dalmatian Railway from the west via Trebinje since 1938 . However, this section was not modernized so that Nikšić became the terminus again after almost 30 years.

Today's line has a connection in Podgorica to the Belgrade – Bar and Podgorica – Shkodër lines . Stations are in Nikšić , Ostrog Monastery , Danilovgrad , Spuž and in Podgorica. The route is maintained by the ŽICG and runs mostly through the Zeta valley .

From 2006 to 2012 the line was out of service due to modernization work.
