Port connection

The railway line Nykøbing F – Nakskov , formerly operated by Lollandsbanen and now operated by Lokaltog A / S, runs east-west from Nykøbing Falster via Maribo to Nakskov . The single-track, standard-gauge line is 50.2 kilometers long and not electrified. The property line with Banedanmark is just behind the bridge over Guldborgsund , which separates Falster and Lolland.

history

The line was opened on July 1, 1874. It was extensively renovated in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1995 815,000 passengers were carried, in 1999 around 970,000 passengers. The IC / 2 diesel multiple units delivered in 1997 contributed to this success. The route is controlled remotely from Maribo. Mainly passenger trains are driven, in rush hour every half hour. There was hardly any freight transport in 2005, but negotiations with potential new freight transport customers took place.

On July 14, 2008, the 700 meter long port railway in Nakskov between Toldbodkajen and Stormgade was shut down and the track was paved over. However, the last freight wagon on the port railway had already been transported by the LJ M17 in 2004, and the track has not been in use since then.

As of January 1, 2009, the newly founded company Regionstog A / S (RT) took over the operation of the private railway lines in the Zealand region from Lollandsbanen and Vestsjællands Lokalbaner and Østbanen . On July 1, 2015, Regionstog and Lokalbanen merged to form the new company Lokaltog A / S, which comprises all former private railways in Zealand and Lolland and of which Movia is the main shareholder .

Regionstog uses type MF vehicles in the Danish private railway variant as IC2 and Alstom Coradia Lint 41 on the route.
