The Nymburk město – Veleliby railway is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the priv. Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG) as part of the Poříčan – Nimburg local railway. It runs from Nymburk to Veleliby and connects the Poříčany – Nymburk and Veleliby – Jičín lines at the Nymburk railway junction , bypassing the Nymburk hlavní nádraží station .
history
The basis for the construction of the connecting railway was the concession issued on March 11, 1883 for the StEG for the construction of the local railway from Sadská to Nymburk . The connecting railway was put into operation on August 26, 1883 together with the railway. With the connecting line, a continuous connection from Prague via Poříčany and Nymburk to Jičín was created with the involvement of the local line Nimburg – Jičín of the kk priv. Bohemian Commercial Railways (BCB).
After the nationalization of the StEG in October 1909, the line belonged to the network of the kk state railways (kkStB). After the break-up of Austria-Hungary , it came to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) in 1919 . On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC), since 2020: Správa železnic .
Passenger trains from Prague via Poříčany to Jičín used the connecting line for decades. With the electrification of the Poříčany – Nymburk railway in 1961, the connections in Nymburk město were broken, the trains from Prague have since ended in Nymburk hlavní nádraží. It was not until the end of the 1990s that passenger trains operated on the Nymburk – Jičín route to and from Nymburk hlavní nádraží, which meant that the connecting line lost its passenger traffic. Since then, travelers from Prague to Jičín have to change trains in Nymburk hlavní nádraží.
Since the 2017 timetable year, an express train that only runs on weekends in the summer months has been using the connecting train on the Prague-Vršovice-Jičín-Turnov route.
