Arlanda Express is a Swedish rail connection that has been connecting Stockholm Central Station with Stockholm / Arlanda Airport with the 200 km / h fast electric multiple unit X3 since 1999 . The trains cover the distance in 20 minutes. At the airport they serve the stations Arlanda Södra and Arlanda Norra. With a few exceptions, the trains run every 15 minutes during the off-peak times and every ten minutes during rush hour.

A-Train AB

Arlanda Express is operated by the public company A-Train AB , which was responsible for building the separate tracks. These are state-owned and are rented and maintained by the Arlanda Express operating company. This is in contrast to the rest of the Swedish railway network, which is maintained by the state infrastructure company Trafikverket .

In addition to the Alstom Coradia X3 trains and the Arlanda Express stations, A-Train AB operates all of the airport railway's ( Arlandabanan in Swedish ) tracks between the Skavstaby and Myrbacken connections, including the Arlanda C long-distance train station. Arlanda C is not served by Arlanda Express trains, but exclusively from regional and long-distance trains from other providers such as SJ AB , Veolia Transport (Norrlandståget) and Pendeltåg from Storstockholms Lokaltrafik . Passengers aged 18 and over boarding or disembarking at Arlanda C must pay a platform fee in addition to the fare.

According to a press release on April 23, 2014, the Arlanda Express carried more than 3.3 million passengers in 2013, and 1.6 million passengers used the Arlanda C station. A single ticket costs around SEK 295  for adults (as of January 2019), about twice as much much like a ride on one of the Flygbussarna and about half a taxi ride.

Ownership

Since January 1, 2004, A-Train AB has been wholly owned by the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund , backed by the Australian infrastructure investor Macquarie Group . On July 9, 2014 Macquarie sold all shares in A-Train to Portare 1 AB .
