The Václavice – Starkoč railway is a single-track branch line ("regionální dráha") and former main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the privately owned Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG). It serves as a connecting line between the parallel Choceň – Meziměstí and Jaroměř – Lubawka lines .
history
On September 14, 1872, the kk priv. Austrian State Railway Company “received the right to build and operate a locomotive railway from Chotzen to Neusorge with connections on the one hand via Braunau to Neurode , on the other hand towards Waldenburg with a branch line from the Náchod - Neustadt line to a suitable one Point of the south-north German connecting railway "granted. The concessionaire was also obliged to start construction within six months of the granting of the concession and to “hand over the completed railway to public transport” within three years .
The line, which was completed in 1875, was opened for freight traffic on February 1, 1876 and also for passenger trains on February 5, 1876.
After the nationalization of the StEG, the line was transferred to the kk Austrian State Railways kkStB on January 1, 1908 . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place .
The importance of the route today lies primarily in the direct connection between Náchod and Meziměstí and the district town of Hradec Králové . Four pairs of express trains operate on this route, and in Starkoč they have a direct connection to the express trains to and from Hradec Králové.
The 2008 timetable also provides for 28 pairs of passenger trains on working days, which run every half hour . Some of these trains are also tied to Náchod. Only the proven two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 are used for this .
