Altendorf – Sargans traction power line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Altendorf – Sargans traction power line is a two- or four-system traction power line for the transport of electricity for the Swiss Federal Railways .

After the Etzelwerk in Altendorf was put into operation, a two-system line was created along the railway line of the main Zurich – Sargans axis up to the Sargans substation . At the Biberlichopf the line runs separately from the railway line. Underground it only runs parallel to the Kerenzberg tunnel . Expansion to four systems began in the 1970s. In the 1980s, the expansion work between Altendorf and Ziegelbrücke was completed and the line was connected to the substation there.

The continuation of the expansion work turned out to be more problematic than before. The electricity company of the city of Zurich agreed to make their Sils-Fällanden line between Niederurnen and Mels available for the two new 170 kV cables to be built. To do this, the masts had to be raised and the foundations partially reinforced, which led to expropriations . The traction current line was attached over the six 380 kV conductors of the EWZ. Such shared lines are referred to as hybrid lines .
