The Baily Head is a headland on the east side of Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located between South East Point and Rancho Point .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out surveys between 1953 and 1954. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1957 after the British astronomer Francis Baily (1774-1844), who had evaluated the pendulum measurements made by Henry Foster on Deception Island in 1829 . Contrary to what is stated otherwise, this headland is not a synonym for Rancho Point.
