Bajuwarenmuseum Waging am See
The Bajuwarenmuseum Waging am See is an archaeological museum in the Upper Bavarian market Waging am See in the district of Traunstein . The focus of the museum is on the Germanic settlement of the region of the former Salzach Glacier between Waginger See and Mattsee by Germanic tribes after the Romans withdrew as well as the formation of the Bavarian tribes from Germanic and Romanic populations. The exhibition shows valuable archaeological finds from the Bavarian row grave fields in Waging and Petting .
history
Based on the finds around Waging am See in the 1980s, the museum was opened in 1997. However, it later had to be closed and the exhibits were handed over to the State Archaeological Collection in Munich for sorting and cataloging . The reopening of the museum in Waging was put into question for some time because of the expected costs, but ultimately the local council decided to implement a new concept. The new exhibition was finally developed in cooperation with a P-seminar of the Chiemgau-Gymnasium Traunstein. After its completion, the museum reopened on May 11, 2018.
